This book of fairytales uses a classic, old style design. A simple text layout is balanced by vivid, watercolor-reminiscent illustrations, shown here for the classic Russian story The Firebird and Princess Vasilisa.

A hunter finds a feather from the plumage of the mythical firebird and gives it to his Tzar, but realizes the Tzar is insatiably greedy for more. The hunter endures many trials, and despite the cruelty of the king, is granted a happy ending. The influence of the firebird is shown by only using warm-toned colors in varying degrees for each character.
